Nobody thought Syracuse would be in the NCAA tournament, but the Orange are making the most of the opportunity moving into the Sweet Sixteen with competitive wins thus far against Arizona State, TCU, and Michigan State. Syracuse has been effective in implementing their grind it out style of half court basketball with all of their results finishing in the 50-60 point range. Syracuse had a similar result to this against Duke during the regular season, in terms of pace of play, falling to the Blue Devils on the road by a final of 44-60.
The Duke Blue Devils have been highly impressive thus far in the NCAA tournament offensively, taking down Iona and Rhode Island in blowout fashion. Duke has shown strengths on both sides of the ball this season, but primarily on the offensive end, ranking 6th in the nation in scoring and 7th in assists. Duke is arguably the best team left in the NCAA tournament and the Blue Devils are the only team coming into their Sweet Sixteen matchup as double digit favorites.
Duke was able to take down Syracuse during the regular season by 16 points and that was with the Blue Devils playing at Syracuse’s pace. We feel Duke’s shooting ability from the outside gives them a lot of opportunities against the Orange zone defense and as a result we like Duke to come through and cover this large spread.
