The Central Michigan Chips ended up needing their robbery win on the road against Oklahoma State to reach a bowl game as this group faded down the stretch standing 6-6 overall after losing 4 of their last 5 games. Central Michigan Chips didn’t live up to their expectations in MAC play as this group went just 3-5 overall in conference play, but to be fair the Chips had to play in the tougher MAC West. The Chips had to lean a lot of veteran QB Cooper Rush as he went on to throw for 3,299 yards and 23 TDs leading the nations 26th best pass attack. On the ground CMU ranked just 117th in the nation in rushing yards.
We really liked this Tulsa football program to get back on track this season, but they even surpassed our expectations as the Golden Hurricane stand 9-3 overall and 6-2 in the AAC. Tulsa closed out the regular season picking up back to back wins against UCF and Cincinnati heading into bowl season. Tulsa doesn’t get that great of a bowl matchup however going against a floundering group that barely made postseason play. Tulsa actually built a lot of their success on the ground this season as this offense put up some big numbers ranking 8th in the nation in rushing, 40th in passing, and 11th in scoring average. QB Dane Evans was solid passing for 3,044 yards and 27 TDs.
Tulsa deservingly comes into this matchup as significant favorites given how Central Michigan faded down the stretch in the MAC. Tulsa has the ability to put up a lot of points and it’ll be interesting to see if CMU can keep pace. We’ll side with the Golden Hurricane to outpace the Chips as they go on to win and cover this large spread.
