This has the potential to be a pretty lopsided matchup as long as the heavily favored Knights come in focused on the road as they get things going under their new head coach. 2017 was a magical year for the undefeated “National Champion” UCF Knights and this group has the pieces to make another strong play for the AAC title. Other than perhaps the LB position, UCF has among the top rated units across the board in the AAC. Look for veteran QB McKenzie Milton to put up big numbers again in 2018.
UConn went just 1-7 in the AAC last season and the Huskies are likely to finish near the bottom of the AAC in 2018. The Huskies are slowly but surely building up their talent pool, but UConn is still likely a couple more years from being anything but an afterthought in conference play. If the Huskies can avoid finishing in last place in the AAC East then that’d be a step in the right direction for a roster that’s lacking in talent pretty much across the board.
UCF is more of a known commodity in terms of their talent and pedigree, but the x-factor is how the Knights come out in week one on the road under a new regime. It’s unfortunate for UCF that their success pushed their head coach over to Nebraska, but the foundation is set for this program to have success for the foreseeable future in the AAC. We like UCF to come through as they go on to cover this large spread.
