Utah State saw improvement last year going 6-7 overall after going just 3-9 the year prior. We’re not overly sold on the Aggies against higher tier competition in 2018, but their lack of weaknesses across all their units with 16 starters back, as well as some higher level transfers, should make them very formidable in the Mountain West’s Mountain Division. QB Jordan Love should breakout this season behind a strong O-line, but he’ll get a very tough test out of the gate from Michigan State.
We were high on Michigan State going into last year and the Spartans shocked a lot of people as they surged back to relevance going 10-3 overall after having completely fallen apart the year prior. MSU was a consistent cover for us in 2017 and it’ll be interesting to see how the Spartans perform in 2018 with higher expectations. QB Brian Lewerke is back and he should take another step forward given the talent that surrounds him throughout the offensive unit. MSU was a top tier defense last season and brings back more than enough talent to be a strong group again in 2018.
Utah State is getting some hype coming into the year which is part of the reason why this spread has been shrinking over the past couple weeks. Michigan State has the experience to come out of the gate strong and behind their home field advantage we like the Spartans to separate on the scoreboard as MSU goes on to cover.
