The Coyotes broke their three game winning streak when the Senators beat them 4-3. It was not from a lack of trying from the Coyotes end though. Phoenix had 40 shots on goal but only three were able to find the back of the net. Rob Klinkhammer and Radim Vrbata both scored for the Coyotes in that game. Mike Ribiero got his first goal of the season for Phoenix by scoring on the power play. Ribiero was a big off season transaction for the Coyotes and so far he has not panned out well for them. The powerplay has not been great for Phoenix as they are hitting at just 78.1%.
Mike Smith has been good enough for the Coyotes this year. Smith has a 3-2-1 record with a 3.16 GAA and .905 SV%. Smith will have a tough task in stopping the Red Wings offense.
The Red Wings are flying high right now. They snapped Colorado's unbeaten streak at six with a big rivalry game win. They are currently sitting in first place of the Atlantic Division with six wins and two losses. Detroit has won their last four games in a row. Detroit received two goals a piece from Davel Datsyuk and Johan Franzen to defect the perfect Avalanche. Backup goaltender Jonas Gustavsson was impressive. Gustavsson allowed just two goals on 40 shots.
Detroit should turn back to Jimmy Howard who is 3-2-0 with a 2.39 GAA and .922 SV%. Howard is playing in front of a solid defense. His defensive unit is however allowing almost 33 shots against per game. They will need to shore that up in order to ensure a win in this game.
Detroit is a behemoth right now. Daniel Alfredsson has proved himself entirely worthly of the move to the Red Wings. Alfresson has eight points already this season. As successful as the Coyotes have been to start the season, we do not see them having a chance in this game. We will recommend taking the Red Wings for this free NHL hockey pick.
