The Carolina Panthers come into this season looking to make another playoff run in what can only be called one of the weakest divisions in the league. If the Panthers hadn’t been in the NFC South there is no way that they would have been realistically looking at making a playoff appearance but now with some personnel issues behind them things are trending in a more positive direction.
Preview: The Panthers are feeling good about Cam Newton being their quarterback of the present and future as they demonstrated by handing him a multi-year contract extension and have good reason to have faith in him as when he is healthy he has shown the ability to be a solid starting QB at the NFL leader and seems to be improving as a team leader. The Panthers chose Jonathan Stewart over DeAnglo Williams in the offseason with the hopes that Stewart’s style will fit better with Mike Shula’s offense and give them a little more punch on offense. As far as WRs are concerned the Panthers really don’t have a lot of good options as they are taking something of a wait and hope someone develops approach.
On defense the Panthers are very strong as they have one of the better defensive lines in the game with defensive ends that both show star caliber play and more than capable backups that would likely be starters for other teams. At linebacker the Panthers are very athletic and with Luke Kuechly in the middle are going to be good for quite some time. In the secondary the Panthers brought in Charles Tillman and hope that he can stay healthy and bring some leadership to the locker room.
Projected Record: 7-9
